Food safety inspections, including complaint inspections, are conducted by state employees working for the Food and Consumer Safety Bureau of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA), as well as inspectors working for local health departments under contract to the Department.

If you have questions about food establishments, licensing or inspections, please contact the local health department responsible for administrating the food safety program in your area.  You can locate the appropriate regulatory entity by clicking on the highlighted areas of the map below.  You may also obtain a complete listing of all local health departments under contract to the DIA and the areas under their jurisdiction by clicking here.

 

In addition to the county health departments depicted in the map above, DIA has contracts with five municipal health departments to conduct inspections in the following cities:

  1. City of Ames
  2. City of Council Bluffs
  3. City of Dubuque
  4. City of Muscatine
  5. City of Ottumwa (including Wapello County)

All counties in white are under the jurisdiction of the Department.  Questions about food establishments in the following counties should be directed to Food and Consumer Safety Bureau:
Allamakee, Boone, Clarke, Clayton, Dallas, Decatur, Dubuque, Iowa, Jasper, Jefferson, Louisa, Keokuk, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Muscatine, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Story, Warren and Wayne counties.
