Q: Where can I get a copy of the rules?
A: The Department's rules regulating the registration of Registered Amusement Devices can be found in the Iowa Administrative Code [481 IAC 105].

Q: How much is the registration fee? 
A: For Manufacturers, Manufacturer's Representatives and Owners, the annual registration fee is $2,500. For Distributors, the annual registration fee is $5,000.  Registration tags for each amusement device are $25 per device per year.  The registration tag fee is to be paid by the distributor, owner or qualified organization.

Q: Will the license fees be prorated?
A: No, you will be charged the annual fee.

Q: What are the prize restrictions?
A: The amusement devices can only pay out up to $5.00 in tokens or coupons.  The tokens or coupons cannot be combined.  The $5.00 prize can only be redeemed on the premises where the device is located and only for merchandise sold in the normal course of business for the premises.  If the merchandise is less than the $5.00 limit, the difference cannot be paid in cash.  The balance, if any, is forfeited.

Q: How many devices can I operate?
A: Qualified organizations, which means non-profit organizations which have a 501(c) classification through the Internal Revenue Service, are allowed to have up to four (4) amusement devices at their establishment.  All others are allowed only two (2) amusement devices per location

Q: What is the penalty for non-compliant amusement devices?
A: Failure to have a device comply with the law is a serious misdemeanor.  Violators may also have their registrations revoked. The Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), is responsible for enforcing the provisions of Iowa Code section 99B.10A.
