Registered Amusement Devices

Frequently Asked Questions
(Continued)

Q: Once my amusement devices are registered am I safe from legal action?
A: Even though registration stickers are in place and the location complies with the correct number of machines, it does not mean that the amusement devices are compliant.  The amusement devices will still need to comply with the current law and rules.  This law was not changed by the General Assembly.  The general compliance regulations found in Iowa Code chapter 99B will be investigated and enforced by the DCI.

Q: What do I do if I think someone is not in compliance with the amusement device rules?
A: You should contact DIA's Social and Charitable Gambling Unit.  You can e-mail your complaint information to the Unit at GMMS@dia.iowa.gov, or send a written complaint to the Department of Inspections and Appeals, Social and Charitable Gambling Unit, Lucas State Office Building, Des Moines, Iowa 50319-0083. You may also call the Unit at (515) 281-6840.

Q: Who is responsible for registering the amusement devices located at my place of business?
A: If you own the amusement device located at your place of business, you are responsible for the registration of the device. If you lease the device, the distributor from whom you lease the device is responsible for registering the device.  However, it is also your responsibility to make sure the device is in compliance.
