Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission regulates pari-mutuel dog and horse racing, commercial gambling facilities, sports wagering, and fantasy sports contests in Iowa. The commission, whose members are appointed by the governor, seeks to preserve the integrity of these industries and to maintain confidence in the industries by protecting the public.
The commission's duties include investigating the eligibility of applicants and making licensing decisions, adopting standards for the licensing of racing industry occupations and for the operation of all race meetings, and adopting standards for the operation and licensing of gambling facilities, sports wagering, and fantasy sports contests. The commission's operations are funded by regulatory fees assessed to the industry and appropriated by the Iowa General Assembly.
